American School, circa 1910
Oil on Canvas, Signed
27" x 23" framed
The American decorative artist Arnold Rhodes rendered this rare oil painting of Zinnias, Delphiniums, and other flowers in a salt-glazed jar. Rhodes was an exceptionally talented painter whose work is traditionally found on the highly sought-after Limoges style American porcelain of the early twentieth century. Arnold Rhodes’ skill as a floral artist landed him positions as a decorative painter for many of the prominent Chicago-based porcelain companies during the early 1900s including; Julius Brauer, Osborne, J.H. Stouffer, Tolpin, as well as Pickard...twice.
In this rare oil on canvas painting, Rhodes beautifully captured the delicate balance of Impressionism's influence in palette and brush stroke while retaining the traditional sense of Realism obtained by his classical training. He has created an intimate still-life that draws the viewer's eye through the vibrancy of color and rendered clarity.
